Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I document my adventures in travel, style, and food. Hope you have a nice stay!

Cropper Plugin for MODO

Cropper Plugin for MODO

I write a lot of plugins for MODO. Picking a favorite is hard to do, but if I had to choose, Cropper might just be it. With this plugin, detailed materials design and render optimization is easier than ever.

The premise of Cropper is simple: you select a render region, click 'crop', and viola! Your image is cropped. No need to zoom and pan in the render window to see your region: it's front and center every time you hit F9.

You can add as many crops as you like, and switch between them as you switch areas of interest in your image. You can quickly toggle the render region on and off in a single click (no properties panel needed), and adjust the camera's focal length just as easily. In the latest version, you can even see a live-updating list of all your crops in a single, clean popover form (no groups panel), and delete everything without a trace in a single click. It works with all MODO cameras, even locked and rigged ones.

The result is not only a perfect geometric representation of the final image, even the resolution is adjusted so that it is, in effect, a pixel-for-pixel preview of what your final bucket render will look like. This means you can use it for denoising and other optimization tasks and know that what you're seeing in the cropped render faithfully represents the final.

If you're working with high-resolution images in MODO, Cropper makes life much, much easier.

Enjoy!
